In Hydria Concept Painting. I painted something scary?

I tried my hand at something creepy to support a friends Indiegogo campaign! He's a recent film graduate, and he's working hard to make this short. The script was written by a another good friend, and I can vouch its going to be good if we can get some help. Plus aren't you dying to know what's in that box?

Update: You can now support the film by buying a signed print of this piece for only 10$ or 20$ depending on the size.  http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/in-hydria

Christmas Card!

Hey! Have a Merry Christmas everybody. I especially have been feeling a lot of love this season, and hope you are all too. I made this card a while back, a friend was going to hand screen print it, but it didn't work out, so digital will have to do!

Turtle!

I doodled this today. Not really sure where it came from.

Ribbon Dragon

It's like an eel in the air, except more flat horizontally than vertically. Watch out for them while skydiving. I might update with a more finished painting when I have time.

Surftober

Incase you haven't gathered from my blog, I love surfing. Surfing in october in San Francisco seems to be particularly nice, so much so that I often draw/paint surfing related stuffs. Hope you like!

The people out there can be inspiring.

And of course the setting is unreal, some memory sketches/thumbs hardly do it justice!

Roboteer

I was trying a bit more finished, realistic style here. Very much based on the rocketeer!

This kind of just happened.

Zombies and Werewolfs!

So this was a test for a company. It ended up that they wanted to go in a different direction, but I still had a lot of fun with it so I thought I'd post it.

Yosemite Valley Plein-air

Some watercolor and gouache painting in the amazing Yosemite Valley. Plein-air is fun, I need to keep it up. I tried to paint half dome at sunset in between these two, but it didn't turn out as well because of the changing colors.

Where I live

The presidio is a pretty unreal place to live. Thought I'd try some digital painting of this cool place. Inspired by Elle Michalka, her work is awesome!! I may have an art crush.

Presidio plein-air painting!

The first two are from around my neighborhood, the presidio. The last one is from my Costa Rica trip a few weeks ago, a ferry at puntarenas. Watercolor and white gouache.

Baby Mech? Pacified Rim? Toddler Tech? Baby Bots?

So I just spent some time visiting my nephew, so that partially explains this drawing. Those little play things babies stand in are cool, but they make no sense, unless they are used to control a giant robot body.

PIGS! Three small ones in fact, and some old news.

*I keep updating it, as I realize I need to push it further! That's just how it goes.

So some crazy stuff has happened recently (here's a bit more info if you haven't heard it from me already) . In short, I'm looking for any and all animation opportunities. So I want to start building a new portfolio, and wanted to take a super simple story and try to do some visual development work for it as if I were building a real project. So i'm working on a version of three little pigs! So this is in progress, and I may change the designs as things evolve/ as I decide what would be fun to do next. Let me know what you think, and if you know of any sweet visual developement gigs please email me!!

Surfing Comic!

So I've been wanting to do some surfing comics for a while, I can't help but be inspired by this guy, and this guy. So here is my first crack at it! I've been learning to surf the past year and a half. I absolutely love surfing, that doesn't mean it isn't quite challenging at times, especially starting out. So I have a few other ideas I want to flesh out in the future, let me know if you guys dig em'.

SPINOFF!

I did this a while back purely as a piece of fan art. Two worlds that I really love and have greatly influenced me as an artist. It seemed appropriate to post it with some of the buzz lately!

Friendly Shark

Drawing sharks is always fun. And as a novice surfer I like to imagine them a bit more huggable. This sketch was done over 1-2 lunches. I feel like I've learned quite a bit since my last shark attempt. Learning from talented coworkers rocks!

Mavericks Warmup Painting

Trying to get some more quick studies for fun/loosening up. This was inspired by the mavericks competition over the weekend, I only watched it online but it was pretty amazing. The announcer kept saying "weightless drop"

Raptor Walk

Warm-up sketch turned into an hour doodle. Velociraptors are awesome, and sometimes I want to draw them and or walk like them.

Swamp painting and being an Uncle!

This painting was for my wonderful sister who just had a little boy on Wednesday! He is my first nephew, so it's pretty awesome, I couldn't be there in person but I got the painting done to greet him at least. My sister and her husband chose the awesome swamp theme and helped choose a direction from a few sketches. My mom made a matching gator quilt to top it all off. So yeah one spoiled little dude! It was acrylic on wood panel 18 by 24 in.

Dusting off the blog.

Hey there, I know it's been forever. Surprisingly my lack of posts is not entirely due to laziness, I've been spending most of my free time on a book project I'm doing with some coworkers that should be really cool, which is the main reason I've been ghost protocol.

Above are watercolor sketches I did during my trip to the Florida Keys last week which was a blast! The Gator just kind of came out as I was watching swamp people and doing preliminary sketches for a swamp piece I'm working on for my future nephew!  I'll try to get more stuff for fun/practice up here on the blog while I work on all my other projects!

Work in Progress. . .

Here's an idea I had this week. Only problem is what do you title it? "tail"gating. Life in the fast lane? Figured I get a reaction before going on to a more finished piece.
